What is Targeted Mentoring?

Targeted Mentoring is similar to typical mentoring except it is specifically designed to address “Target Behaviors”. A Target Behavior is any behavior that parents/guardians and clinicians agree is harmful to the individual, family or the community. Examples of target behaviors are (but are not limited to):
- Physical Aggression
- Verbal Abuse
- Object Aggression (throwing objects)
- Sexual Assault
- Destruction of Property
In addition to more obvious Target behaviors, there are also more subtle issues that can be addressed (prioritization is critical):
- Negativity (hopelessness)
- Hyperactivity
- Hypo-activity
- Psychosexual Dysfunction
- Depression
- Chronic lying or Manipulation
While there are many clinicians and health care professionals involved with MWM activities, our mentors are hired on the basis of their track record not their degree (or lack of one). Participants are more than welcome to invite individuals with clinical degrees to any support meeting. Every mentor that works with youth under 18 years of age, undergoes an extensive FBI background check. The model we use is the same model being used by the most effective mentoring organizations in the world today.
